The title of this post was going to be: “Our First Anniversary @ The Forge Pub. But, I thought instead I’d do a Noggin’ Load for anyone who recalls we’ve reached that glorious summit before. Indeed, many tunes have been squeezed, bowed, picked, strummed, tippered and blown in that pub, as we had our first “1st Anniversary” years ago. We’d taken a break and then a year ago (by happy fortune) we were able to start our session back-up, courtesy of the Forge and John Mullen. As many of you know, John is always in the thick of everying, seemingly omni-present for all momentus occasions where history is made - reminicent of Forrest Gump. And indeed there’s a story to be told about the re-beginning of the Forge session. John of an evening, sipping a tasty pint at the Forge Pub and noticing how local talent was causing his foot to tap, had an epiphany (not unlike Newton and his apple) and thought: “Jesus, Mary and Joseph, this would be a feckin’ nice place for an Irish session” not knowing his hypothesis had already been tested long ago by Tasha Carr. Great minds…
“Jesus, Mary and Joseph, this would be a feckin’ nice place for an Irish session.”
In any event, Monday was a super-savage craic, to be sure. As usual it was fueled by tunes, laughter, beer and good-cheer - not to mention vanilla cake, courtesy of John. We had a full back-bar teeming with young and old alike, who had some association with Sky, which I never grasped, having had a pint of Hazy something-or-other, which had that effect on my brain. But you know things are rocking when young punters are hopping around in joy - not knowing a single Irish step - and totally impervious to how ridiculously entertaining they are. Luckily Des was there and took up John’s cry to: “show ‘em how it’s done” by breaking into a mighty dance, to cheers and applause. By the end of the evening, Des was dancing hand-in-hand with our young punters and showing them some Irish steps to take home with them - and dust off again when they’re back at the Forge!
To all those who couldn’t make it this past Monday - be strong - save your hot teardrops for something you can’t remedy! We’ll be there again next year to celebrate our 2nd anniversary (and all the Monday’s in-between) and next year I’ll be making my chocolate whiskey cake to mark the occasion.
